March 31, 2004 - Concept Storage Solutions, one of Canada's fastest
growing suppliers of racking and storage products has recently moved
into a new, custom-built facility in Vaughan, Ontario, "the city
above Toronto". The facility occupies 32,000 square feet (2,980
sq. m.), including 13,000 sq. feet (1,210 sq. m.) of tenant space, on
a 1.7 acre (0.69 ha) site.
The new facility is planned to enhance the level of service to Concept's
customers by creating more product availability and by extending the
range and size of items that may be inventoried under cover. Long sections
of rack products may be handled with ease in the building since columns
are a whopping 50 feet (15 m.) apart in one direction, 30 feet (9 m.)
in the other.
"We look at existing buildings but were never able to find the
right fit", says Pete Roell, founder and President of Concept.
"We then decided to custom-build our own facility to our own specifications."
The building occupies a prime location at 1470 Creditstone Road, just
minutes away from Highways 400, 401 and 407, as well as being close
to a CN rail terminal. It has a 28-foot (8.5 m) clear height, or about
31 foot (9.5 m) overall. Initially, Concept will operate out of 18,000
square feet (1,670 sq. m.) of warehouse space and 6,000 square feet
(560 sq. m.) of office space on two levels, with outward expansion capability
at any time.
The building has four dock doors, each with a 45,000 pound (20,000
kg.) hydraulic leveller, and four drive-in doors, including one that
is 24 feet wide by 14 feet high (7.3 by 4.3 m.). All the doors are insulated
and equipped with electric openers.
"Every aspect of the building has been specifically designed for
the storage of oversized, "rack-type" inventory", Roell
says. "Everything is fully accessible at all times, so that our
customers may be serviced fast and efficiently."
Products include mezzanines, pallet racks, push-back racks, pick modules,
carton flow, cantilever racking, drive-in racks, wire-mesh decks, shelving,
garment racks and more.
"The warehouse and showroom will display working examples of the
different types of storage equipment that we supply", Roell says.
"We now have the capability to offer in-house consulting where
we can sit down with a client at our facility, evaluate alternatives
and develop drawings to exact specifications.
"Design changes will be a snap and customers will have the opportunity
to evaluate different layouts. A design which used to take a number
of weeks to finalize will now require just a few hours. This level of
service was difficult before, for we were operating out of two separate
cramped facilities, due to rapid growth."
Roell notes that the nature of the storage products industry has changed
since Concept started more than 15 years ago.
"It calls for more technical expertise and a greater awareness
of safety issues, such as the need for engineering stamps indicating
rack capacity and the provision of permits for such structures as mezzanines.
It is a process through which we can fully guide the user while managing
the actual physical project of installation, a system to satisfy client
needs."
As well as manufacturing product in its own right, Concept Storage
is an Authorized Distributor of Interlake Storage Rack, the largest
manufacturer of storage racks and leading source of comprehensive integrated
material handling systems in North America.
