THE PROBLEM
Chair Decor, Linens, & More, a linen and events rental company in Vaughan, Ontario, experienced a garment racking failure that shut down the company’s operations, damaged the linens, and posed a significant business challenge in the face of COVID-19.
THE SOLUTION
A new storage solution was planned, proposed, and installed. The new system is 8 rows of 3-tiered static storage racks, each row 40′ in length. The garment-on-hanger storage system allows for dense storage, without sacrificing accessibility.
A static garment racking system may not have as much density than other dynamic systems, but for this size of operation, it is the most efficient solution. With stability and accessibility at the forefront of the system design, this warehouse’s workflow is now efficient and safe for linen staff to find and return products to their specific location.
THE RESULTS
Concept acted quickly to clean up the failed racking system, along with cleaning up all damaged garment products. The new static, garment-on-hanger racking system offers a more dense storage solution, without forfeiting accessibility.
This particular rack failure happened in midst of the pandemic, when uncertainty and stress was at an all time high. Our team’s ability to act quickly to remove the damaged system, and implement a new one, meant less time and money lost for Chair Decor, during a time when business was already so uncertain.
Now with the new garment racking system, warehouse efficiency is improved and having the confidence in the structure of this system, means Chair Decor can go back to business and focus on serving their customers and growing their business.

FAQ
Garment on Hanger systems is the industry standard for warehouse clothing storage. Garment on Hanger systems can be customized to make the most of your space, from single-tier to multi-tier systems with catwalks. Smaller systems can be used in retail applications. The systems are adjustable and can be easily adapted to suit inventory changes.
Garment on Hanger systems protects fabrics from wrinkling and prevents decorative items from being damaged or disrupted from folding.
Garment on Hanger racking enables quick retrieval and restocking, to achieve efficient labour requirements and workflow processes. Lighting and climate control can also be adapted into your system, to ensure product preservation.
A warehouse racking failure can be caused by a multitude of factors; poor design, over capacity loads, damage to the system. A racking failure can be detrimental to a business. It can create operational costs from the time and money spent needed to replace the damaged system, and also lead to even more harmful safety concerns.
It is crucial for warehouse managers to:
- Ensure their facility layout is properly engineered
- Have regular rack inspections conducted on their systems
- Repair damaged parts
That depends on the extent of the racking damage, or rack failure. A small damaged racking part can be replaced in just a few hours.
A full replacement of a racking system could take several days or weeks, as the damaged system would need to be removed, the space would need to be cleaned and prepared for the new system, and then the new system can be installed.
